1995 Ford Escort GT Review

Date Posted: July 31,2006

Introduction

1995 Ford Escort GTFor 1995, Ford had a number of models of the Ford Escort. There was the base Escort, The LX, and the GT. The most performance-oriented model was the two door Escort GT.

I purchased my white Escort GT as a used car in August 2005 with 165,000 km on it. I drove the car for a year (11,000+ km), and had very few problems. For an Escort, it is a really good bang for the buck. I've driven a regular LX Escort with the base 88 horsepower engine, and the GT's 127 horsepower is a night and day difference. The GT's 1.8L DOHC engine just loves high revs.

The GT offers the following standard features over the base Escort:

  • Sport cluster with tachometer
  • Asymetrical grille
  • Fog lights
  • Rocker panel cladding
  • Sport performance cloth bucket seats
  • Rear spoiler
  • Styled aluminum 15" wheels
  • Dual electric remote-controlled mirrors

Options on the 1995 Escort GT include: Automatic transaxle, Luxury convenience group, ABS, Pwer equipment group, Power moonroof, Engine block heater, Ultra violet decor group, and a premium sound system.

The engine puts out 127 horsepower @ 6,500 rpm, and 114 lb-ft of torque @ 4,500 rpm.

Conclusion

The Ford Escort GT is a great choice for someone who wants a sporty car that gets 40mpg. It provides sporty, good looks with spirited performance. If you can't afford or don't want to put the gas in a Mustang, this is a great car.
